14 #thriftscorethursday Swanky Martini Glass

Guess what day it is?! It’s my favorite day of the week… #thriftscorethursday!! Picture me squealing with joy, especially because today’s a little different…

#thriftscorethursday Week 25 | Trisha from Black and White Obsession and Brynne's from The Gathered Home + guest host Tanya from Dans Le Lakehouse

Brynne from The Gathered Home and I are still going strong even after 25 weeks and we’ll never tire of hitting up our thrift stores.

In fact, beginning this week, we’re incorporating guest hosts (because why not share the love of thrifting with an even bigger world?!). So, please welcome Tanya from Dans Le Lakehouse. Tanya has been featured umpteen times by both Brynne and I as well being an avid participant. So it was a no-brainer to sweet talk her into being our first guest host. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post and shower her with Instagram love, and click over for her finds & features this week!

Sheesh, there are just SOOO many good thrifty finds every single week. It makes me want to host a huge thrifting excursion.

This week I some how managed to narrow it down to these three:

Starting this week off on the right foot is one of the best prints I’ve seen to date, it may have even spawned an idea or two… from Sarah at The Thriftress (pretty cool name eh?). It’s such a casual pun and that slight wood-tone vector has me weak at the knees… and of course it helps that it totally reminds me of Mad Men.

Oh and I got to meet this lovely lady at Haven, and totally crash their dinner parties. Every. Night.

Next up is the prettiest sofa color ever:
#thriftscorethursday Week 25 | Instagram user: vintagerainlove shows off this absolutely gorgeous teal mid-century sofa

Can you believe Julie scored this sofa for a mere $35? It looks like it’s in MINT condition and again that color… it had me at hello. Let me just jump through the screen and give it a little pet… too weird?!

Moving on…
#thriftscorethursday Week 25 | Instagram user: brightgreendoor shows off this Milk Glass Collection

Jess from Bright Green Door basically said… Oh you know I found this set for $3 at a garage sale, buy or sell?.. ARE YOU FRIGGIN KIDDING ME?! 1. That’s a steal (thrift stores must have gotten wind that milk glass is kind of a big deal). 2. They’re gorgeous. 3. I don’t think I would have been able to whip out $3 quick enough to take those babies home.

And now for my glass-erific find:

Story time…

So years ago when my sister got married, I basically crammed my Martini Glass obsession down my sister’s throat. If you’re not already familiar with the Martini obsession, check out my attempt at comparing them to my other love of heels here, or my martini-arific holiday tablescape here.

As in I went out and purchased an entire set from Swank Martini as her wedding gift. When she opened it I casually mentioned, "If you don’t like it, I’ll take it and get you something even more awesome" (half hoping she’d take me up on it). Buuut, she politely took the gift. Now, if that wasn’t awkward enough, over the first few years I asked her on occasion why she wasn’t displaying their beauty and she simply said “I just haven’t gotten around to it.” So one day, with her permission of course, I excitedly whipped them out and started petting them playing decorator with them. It just so happens that I got a little too excited and I managed to chip one pretty badly.

My sister was a witness.

So like any sweet sister (me), we flipped that one around (so no one would see) and insisted on replacing it. It must have slipped my mind as another year went by when I peered at them while visiting one day, you know to make sure martini thieves didn’t steal them. Being that it was unacceptable that I hadn’t found a replacement in a year, I told her the broken one was coming home with me to put it in plain sight as a reminder to get on it already.

Fast forward another 6 months-ish and I finally found one. Actually a bunch of them. At my favorite thrift store. For a $1. SCORE!! Waaaaay cheaper than when I bought them years ago. Ok it’s not the exact same one, rather it was the Libbey one. Anywho, for some reason I only came home with one as a replacement (I’ve been practicing restraint people!!) and sent it along with her husband during a drive-by visit.

So about 6 years later, she finally has a whole set on display. And that my friends, is how it all went down.

Now that I’ve shared a ridiculously long story about yet another glass obsession, it’s time to close off Thrift Score Thursday Week 25, my friends! With a few instructions on how you can play along with us:
  1. Snap a photo of your thrifted treasure scored anywhere secondhand.
  2. Share your photo with the hashtag #thriftscorethursday on Instagram (if your profile is public) and/or Twitter, any day of the week!
You could be featured next Thursday as your hosts Brynne and I (+a third surprise guest host) dish out our favorite scores every week.

Sissy if you're reading, I still love those martini glasses. I'm totally ok with a surprise White Elephant gift one of these years... Alright, who else has an obsession with glass? Anyone?!

  1. Haha, what a story! I'm glad you finally managed to track that glass down! Now you just need a set for yourself :) That Eames poster was another of my favorites - it was so hard to choose this week! (Well, it's always pretty hard!)

  5. Thats so awesome that you found a replacement. I have an expensive knife block in my kitchen that all my french knives snuggly fit into and gives the appearance that I am a culinary extrodinare! Wouldn't you know I let a friend crash for 2 weeks while I was back home and the knife was missing! How do you misplace a knife?! Now the mere sight of that block with one knife missing just irks me! So long story short I know how you feel!

    1. WHAT?! I guess they took it as payment for hanging out and making a mess of your house! I've seen plenty of knives at the thrift store (and dangerously at kid level sometimes- yikes) so maybe there's hope for you too?!
