If you hadn’t noticed via Instagram, I had the pleasure of attending this little event called Snap! Conference (slightly different from Haven). Alright so it’s really not THAT little with well over 500 attendees... Basically it’s a yearly gathering for DIY and Crafty bloggers filled with giant slumber parties, sponsors dressing as mad scientists (this year), and door decorating contests. Maybe the best word visual would be a GINORMOUS sorority house-- alright I’ve been watching too much Greek on Netflix lately!
Let’s begin with all the parties/events:
Source- I told you the sponsors dressed as Mad Scientists!!
The very first night set the tone for the rest of the Conference. It was a gigantic 80’s slumber party complete with a donut bar, karaoke, a huge photo booth set (totally reminded me of Saved by the Bell), and Cricut Explore stations. I just so happen to sport some crimped hair and my BLACK AND WHITE footie pajamas (which you may have noticed from the very first week of What I Wore Fantastic Fridays):
As soon as I read that they were hosting a thrift store tour I just HAD to get onboard immediately. Coincidentally, it landed on the best thrifting day… #thriftscorethursday. The most memorable stop on the tour was Euro Treasures of Salt Lake City. This store was JAM-Packed with countless relics from Europe. Brooke from All Things Thrifty explained that the owner had imported 89 forty-foot long shipping containers from Liverpool to Salt Lake City. I guess he collected so much, that he still has crates he hasn’t opened yet.
Seriously folks, Isles upon Isles of treasures ready to be discovered:
You can get lost in the sea of chairs on the second floor:
There are plenty of large scale pieces:
And unique handmade pieces like this Dragonfly from metal scraps:
And pieces like this vintage European car that left you scratching your head, wondering how they managed to get it inside…
…there wasn’t even enough room for all of us in the shot!
Be sure to scroll through Instagram using #thriftstorepartybus hash on Instagram to see all the pretty pieces and thrifted treasures we scored!
The following night Shelley from The House of Smiths hosted an 80’s themed dance party to which I, again, busted out the crimper for:
That photo SCREAMS prom, complete with bright obnoxious flash, awkward squinty eyes from said flash, poofy dress, balloons and twinkling lights in the background, need I say more? Oh and for some really awkward dance moves from yours truly check out the video on Girl Loves Glam blog.
We ROCKED the Ghostbuster’s theme… complete with Flarp aka monster poo goo and Marshmallows as a little tribute to the monsters.
Last but not least, I signed up for Secret Sisters- a little event in which we learn about our randomly paired sister and shower them with three gifts throughout the event. My fabulous assigned Secret Sister, Sunny from Dandelion Square was showered with some handmade goodies:
My fantastic Secret Sister, Amy from The Happy Scraps,
stalked me enough knows me all too well and showered me with:
Some 80’s socks and bright green nail polish (totally should have used those for my 80’s outfit), the perfect pack of scrapbook paper, and finally, a journal with my logo. I cannot begin tell you how spot-on she was especially with the journal. I love love love that she took the time to match my brand!!
It wasn’t all just fun and games y’all, we also had some serious bid-ness like extremely informative classes:
Every conference I learn a ton of new stuff and Snap! was no exception. Instead of recapping (like Haven) I thought I’d provide some links that the speakers provided to us:
- Google Plus- from the beginner to the moderate user this presentation (and many other helpful links) is a must!! Angie and Lindsey are pros!
- Inlinkz- I had no idea Inlinks was capable of more than just link parties. For example, did you know you could hook it up to some of the major affiliate networks? Crazy right?! You can download the presentation here.
- If you’re on Hometalk and in the Blogtalk Facebook group, here are tips to maximize your posts.
I promise I didn’t even have a drop of alcohol at this point!
Even though we were totally exhausted from the traveling and the first day’s activities, they still pitched in to get our door looking just right. We had a blast crimping our hair and decking out our Ghostbuster’s door:

On more than one occasion this fabulous lady (Lisa from Feto Soap) and my new BFF saved my tush:
She came equip with a cell charger, tons of Instagram knowledge, and some badarse accessories- to which I was drooling over all weekend long. She was so sweet, she even took a few photos for me since my phone was severely on the fritz. Between classes we chatted about one of our favorite crafting tools- the Silhouette Cameo- that’s right she’s also part of our amazing Silhouette Challenge Group. One last thing… doesn’t she remind you of Cassandra from Wayne’s World?! Am I right, how gorgeous is she?!
Creative to the max my friends!!
I wish I would have taken the time to Snap (har!) more photos with more blogger friends who I finally got to meet in person, like Melissa from A Prudent Life- seriously we hung out the whole first day and not one pic.
Admittedly I’ve sort of been living in a cave all winter, completely hibernated and didn’t come out of the house unless it was absolutely necessary. Add the fact that we dropped cable over two years ago, and it brings us back to the Stone Age (almost). So when hanging out at all the sponsor’s tables, they pretty much blew my mind with all the new and schmancy products. One that particularly stands out is MIRROR Paint from Rust-oleum. Say whaaa?!
Where was this glorious spray paint when we scooped up an old, semi-chipped builder grade mirror?! Oh man, when I get my hands on some paint… all I can say is: glass surfaces beware.
And getting to see the Cricut Explore machine IN PERSON as a LIVE demo (our craft stores have a dummy model)- I was like a kid in the candy store. That and ridiculously eager pick one up and experiment. After asking him a bazillion questions, all I wanted to do was walk out of there with one… I’ll be saving my pennies!!
Excuse me while I craft my brains out!!
To my blogger friends: seriously there’s nothing like getting together with a huge group of bloggers who know firsthand the effects of staying up until 4AM ready to hit ‘publish.’ I highly-HIGHLY recommend conferences even if you can only squeeze in one a year.
Thanks for virtually hanging out with me on my very first trip to Salt Lake City!! Do you go to business/blogging conferences? Are yours as jam-packed and fun as the DIY nitche?! Did you attend SNAP! Don’t be shy pop in below and say hi!
