7 Black and White Obsession 2014 Blog Redesign, Grand Tour

Another season of Blogging conferences is upon us-- eek Snap! is in just a few days!! Picture me scrambling like a mad woman-- which means that Black and White Obsession got a teeny-tiny makeover. Alright, I totally realize this is quite a bit delayed since everything officially went at the end of March, but better late than never right?!

As usual, let’s begin with a Style Guide for the entire site:

The overall design is quite similar to August’s Full Monty ReBranding + ReDesign. The color scheme, most of the elements, the texture, the 'clickable' signature all remain the same.

However, a couple updates were needed to match the more modern and sleek ‘branding’ font in the header, thus a few edgy elements were thrown in the mix. Like the blog topics/categories (found on the sidebar) and photo watermark:

One of the most noticeable changes was moving the sidebar from the right to the left. I feel as though they’ll be a bit more prominent and help you navigate through the site easier with convenient features.

The most awkward piece for me was to update the ‘Bio-Photo.’ I’m a super shy selfie-taker, I’d rather be behind the camera than the one trying to strike a pose for Vogue, Madonna style.

It was much needed since chopping off and donating 17+ Inches last summer. You know so all my new friends at Snap! are able to recognize me! What would a selfie-photo shoot be without some weird-o outtakes?!

The header also got a little more convenient. As in, a subscription box. In case the one on the sidebar, the one in the footer, or the one right here:

aren’t begging obvious enough. See:

Another minor update was converting a Pinterest and Hometalk usernames to bnwobsession instead of bandwobsession (so it stops looking like ‘band’ obsession). I know so drastic!! I just figured it makes things easier for y’all to follow along!! That and the business cards look a lot more streamlined:

Which also got a face lift too (check out the old ones here).
Black and White Obsession Designs: Faster load time because of updates to the Tabbed Sidebar | Blog ReDesign/Refresh | www.blackandwhiteobsession.com

The tabbed sidebar thingies, you know the first and third boxes on the left-hand sidebar, they had some major reconstruction. Besides an updated look, adding ‘freebies,’ removing ‘Archives’ (don’t worry it’s further down on the sidebar) and a finished ‘tags’ tab, there was something even more important behind the scenes. Something you may not notice... it was brought to you by my good and super genius coding friend Kristy (at Please Excuse My Craftermath), we hammered that baby out! How I got her to let me pick her brain for a morning is beyond me.

So what’s so different about that sidebar-tabber guy anyway?! Glad you asked! It loads A BILLION times faster. Yeah. No more waiting for the most convenient Black and White Obsession navigation to load anymore. In turn, this little update probably makes the whole page load faster (SCORE!!).

I have a whole lot more in store over the next couple months, like finishing off all those ‘blank’ and not-so-punny anymore pages *cough* House Tour *cough:

Fully neglected folks!

And maybe updating that Freebies page every once in a while.

Currently, you’ll get a daily-ish dose of Black and White Obsession. In the future, they’ll be a freebie and you’ll have more options like daily or weekly. Either way, you’ll be able to keep up with all things DIY | Design | and Life.

So what do you think of the ReDesign? Feel free to poke around, tell me what is and isn’t working (I know that search bar is pretty annoying right now). Or, tell me, what do you think of the new look?

Have you gotten your feet wet in the design world? Did you proudly, yet nervously show it off? I’d love to see what you’ve created!!

I promise, Snap! did NOT pay me to blast their links through this article. I’m just ridiculously excited/extremely nervous for the days to come.
