6 What I wore- Fantastic Fridays: Week 23

Wow, can you believe it’s the end of June ALREADY?! The Fourth of July is just around the corner and some towns in our area are hosting fireworks this weekend already. Guess I’m a traditionalist and like to enjoy them on the holiday, but I also wouldn’t miss a fireworks display.

It’s also Friday, which means it’s time for this week’s What I Wore this Fantastic Friday.

8 Quick and Easy Recipe: Summer Pesto Pasta Salad

Wow, is it Wednesday. Really?! Where did Tuesday go? I got sucked into a time warped blog designing session. Man, when creative juices are flowing who can deny that? Wait, that didn’t quite sound right. Either way, I cannot WAIT until it’s further along, then maybe I’ll feature a sneak peek/have y’all vote on your favorite? Maybe include a freebie for my other Do-It-Yourselfers blog-designing homies?

Anyway, today’s topic is actually about food. I haven’t posted a recipe since the Barbeque Chicken Pizza and figured I’d give ya a summer semi-homemade recipe we just concocted last night!  And today’s recipe, is a perfect summer dinner; not too heavy, and very cold on a hot summer evening.

11 15 Pun-ny Etsy Finds + Sneak Peek

Boy this weekend was fabulous, sure there were some overcast and even rainy parts, but you know the saying “when life gives you lemons…”

Today is a particularly awesome Monday (do we really need a reason for AWESOME?) and what better way to brighten your day by chocking this post full of some Pun-ny Etsy finds, and of course a sneak peek at a photo shoot I’m working on.

6 What I wore- Fantastic Fridays: Week 22

So it rained this morning. First thought: ‘go figure a rainy day on a morning I actually get to hang out with the beau and my nephew.’ Not two seconds later we turned the day into a blessing in disguise because we busted out the good ‘ol board games and played some Monopoly. Not just any Monopoly, the Spiderman version!! My favorite movie version is still Spiderman 3. When my nephew was younger it was his favorite character but he’s since grown out but thankfully didn't seem to mind the themed version. It’s been so long since I’ve played that I almost forgot the rules!

The beau and I had so much fun teaching and laughing and being greedy patient with the newbie. I don’t know about you but my favorite part of children is being able to teach them to be good people so they can hopefully grow into amazing well-rounded adults.

Anyway enough about the mushy stuff, it’s Friday and it’s time to show off What I Wore this miraculous Friday.

0 Adventures in gardening: Winter Cleanup and a Little Tree Style Nip and Tuck

I know this adventures in gardening series is more like a diary of us starting and maintaining our garden, but the time has come to spill our guts and let it grow expand to the entire yard. Remember we actually fell in love with the home for its yard and it has been sorely neglected over the years.

This is not to say we were angel landscapers either. Since we focused on making the interior ‘livable’ the entire summer last year, we were unable to do anything except mow it. And let’s just say, over the winter we couldn’t bare the sight anymore.

I know it’s two weeks into summertime (at least to me), let’s show off how harsh the winter was to our ‘house lot’ (you know the area directly around our house) shall we?
The garden bed had years of neglect and weed overgrowth.

4 Entryway Reconfiguration, Part 1: Doorway Removal

This series of home posts are events which occurred in the distant past, please bear with me until I catch up to the present.

Wow, time flies! The last time I mentioned anything about the entryway was at the end of May (wasn’t that just yesterday?!) Anyway, let’s get this show on the road and tackle some reconfiguration, doorways to be exact.

As you may have read from our kitchen post or the entry way plan, our first to-do was to remove the door sectioning off the kitchen from the entryway. This would help the open feel we were going for. We decided on a frameless door frame so we didn’t have to salvage and fill the hinge holes or purchase new framing material (besides corner bead which we’ll get into later).

8 Paint Chip Flower

I was so excited to tackle this week’s Craft With What You've Got from Framed Frosting because its theme was paint chips. Yep those freebies you get from the store when you’re looking to paint your room a new color.

And like a good little crafter, I was lucky enough to have a drawer full. However, not in the colors and quantities I needed. So off to the store trying not to look overly greedy suspicious (buying a small item from each store to offset the guilt) grabbing a handful of specific colors and headed home to brainstorm some ideas.

Here’s what I came up with:
Chrysanthemum either fading in or fading out.
And here is the finished product:
Maybe it will have a different look during the day.
I’d say there was some major deviation from the original concept.

After cutting each petal out using the Silhouette Cameo, the beau (yep I called in the big brains) and I sat there for a couple hours moving the pieces around trying to come up the least wonky design. Folks, it’s harder than it sounds.

The quote reads “Why fit in when you were born to stand out. –Dr. Seuss.” I don’t know about you but I LOVED Dr. Seuss growing up! It was probably all those rhymes and original words. Fun fact: I actually squeezed in a Pac-Man font.

What was your favorite childhood author? Any Dr. Seuss fans in the hizzouse?

Have you tried your hand at a project and it ended up very different than you had planned? Please tell me I’m not the only one.

3 What I wore- Fantastic Fridays: Week 21

When I originally started What I Wore- Fantastic Fridays with the idea that I no longer had to wear ‘business casual’ attire for the corporate world. The whole purpose of What I Wore- Fantastic Fridays, was to take the existing “What I Wore segments” (like from this blog or that blog) and put a twist. That twist was to let the outfit take a mind of its own whether it be embarrassing, ridiculous, or downright painful.

So going back to the roots, lets shake this Friday up shall we?

8 Maiedae Mixer- Blog Event/Conference Tips and Lessons Learned

Preparing for a conference or event of your own? Don't miss:
Part 1- Roommate Gift + Freebie
Part 2- Business Cards
Part 3- DIYing the Outfit
Part 4- Lessons Learned
, you are here.

I promise this is the last post about the Maiedae Mixer. What can I say; it was quite a week and a half getting ready, and experiencing it all. But today, I’ll be going over some valuable lessons I learned which can and will be carried over to some blogging conferences coming up (*cough*Haven*cough)!

11 DIY Mason Jar Compost Pail

So two weeks ago the amazingly talented and super sweet Danielle from Framed Frosting started this link party called Craft with What You Got. Unfortunately, it hit me on my already crazy busy week prepping for the blog event. But this week, well there is no excuse except coming up with an idea around the theme Mason Jars

Surprise, we ended up with this beaut:
It took a while to come up with the idea but, early sat morning (when most of my ideas hit me) I got up to go clear away some dishes, glanced over at our sad excuse for a compost dish (regular ‘ol bowl),
and pick off some dead leaves from our plant-topia (post coming someday), you know normal stuff. Then it FINALLY hit me. You see we’ve been looking for a compost bucket/pail forever! It was on our garage sale list
and even pinned (here or here).

So why not combine the two things, convert a mason jar into a compost pail?
A quick trip to my local thrift store snatching up the best looking one for $0.79. It seemed like the perfect size for just the two of us. In the past we used a medium Rubbermaid container and it took forever to fill. And by the time we got around to empty it, there was some unpleasant smells coming from it.

5 Maiedae Mixer, the Trip and Event

I promise this is the second last post about the Maiedae Mixer. What can I say; it was a whirlwind week and a half.

I hope you’re like me and love some Infographics, because today it’s chock-full!

2 What I wore- Fantastic Fridays: Week 20

Last night I left ya hanging on the outcome of the Black and White outfit worn for the Maiedae Mixer last Saturday, not on purpose, rather because the weather wasn’t cooperating. Enough jibber jabber, let’s get on with the post and what was worn today and last Saturday.

3 Belated Birthday Report

It’s about high time (only a month late) that I tactfully boast, I mean, talk about how amazing the beau is. Before I lose you, don’t worry this post isn’t all about our mushy lovey-dovey stuff (we’re actually pretty reserved in that department), but rather his caring and thoughtful self.

You see, I’d like to discreetly admit that we’re living on a tight budget right now. That really means that generally we cannot afford the good things in life (we’re totally ok with and in fact as happy as ever). So when my beau surprised me on my b-day topping his amazing Christmas gift. Let’s just say, I was blown away!
You see, I have a terrible time accepting gifts. Call it- I could never repay you for your kindness. What I love and appreciate the most is that someone took their precious time to come up with something that they know is more you than you realize.

I very playfully told him, “You better not come home with anything less than a dog, in fact take back what you got and just get us a pup.” So what did he have up his sleeve? Something even better:
Yep, it’s a brand-spanking new windshield.

3 Maiedae Mixer, Blog Event Preparation- The Outfit

Part 2- Business Cards
Part 3- DIYing the Outfit, you are here.
Part 4- Lessons Learned

I think it comes to no surprise that I LOVE my brand- Black and White Obsession, I find it just so easy to market. So when it came to an outfit for the Maiedae Mixer, it should have been a no brainer  Let’s do this, REPRESENT!

Preparing for a conference or event of your own? Don't miss:
Part 1- Roommate Gift + Freebie
Part 2- Business Cards, you are here.
Part 3- DIYing the Outfitcompleted
Part 4- Lessons Learned

Business Cards, they can make you or break you. Talk about intimidation!

My business cards were designed about a month ago, after learning from the past that these sorta things take time. That and unexpected events happen more often than not.

One would think since their first set of business cards (for my other business, Photography) didn’t turn out as expected, that one would have learned from that mistake? Well sort of.
To my defense, back when that first set failed, in preparation I bought a used printer from my local Craigslist, a printer I thought was up to par. For a while the printer was really holding up. That is until it was put to the test a week and a half before the blogging event. Towards the end, I guess the printer threw in the white towel:

0 Adventures in Gardening: Growth

Sheesh, the last time I posted an update on the garden was when we planted the seeds back in April (posted at the end of May). Yikes! Well let’s inch our way closer with growth/progression.

Of course each plant has its own growth rate so many weren’t quite sprouting during the first round of photos.

Day 6 we have a few plants showing some green.

Part 4- Lessons Learned
Like I mentioned yesterday, this week I’m trying my hardest to double post because I left y'all high and dry last week. Initial thoughts: Are you crazy?! You were already sleep deprived last week getting ready for the blog event and the whole weekend during travel!

Anywho, I hope those of you getting your toes wet in the blog world, getting ready for a conference in the future, or curious to see what happens when bloggers get together will enjoy this Maiedae Mixer recap.
Up first on this little recap is the gift I gave to lovely Christina as a roomie gift/thanks for letting me crash at your place/thanks for helping pay half the expenses/listening-to-me-blabber-during-our-road-trip gift. I got the idea while searching for conference preparation (like here and here).

Is there any gift out there to cover all that? You be the judge.

0 Black and White Obsession this week

What a whirlwind weekend (both literally and figuratively)! I must say, the best part of it all was meeting many, many lovely ladies. I can't wait to spill all the details after I catch my breath.

Like mentioned last week, I hope to double down on posts (with the exception of today, which was still travel day) this week to make up for my absence last week.  The absence was to plan, prep and execute all the details for the Maiedae Mixer. You know, waiting until the last minute to tackle some DIY projects exclusively for the mixer.
Here’s a sneak peek into the ‘queue’ for what’s in store:
Who knows there may be a freebie or two in store, so make sure to follow along! Check out my freebie page here.
