17 Chic and Polished Resume Template + Free Photoshop Download

Hello my friends!! I'm all giddy excited because I have a very special treat in store for you today! A FREE Chic and Polished Photoshop Resume Template.
You may be asking yourself, what's wrong with my jam packed, meticulously-keyword researched resume? Probably not a whole lot. But let's face it; standard templates are so 2007 and yaawn-tastically boring. And second, why not stand out from the rest and be that Firework that Katy Perry encourages you to be?

My journey with this resume started before attending Haven, when the boyfriend requested I help him create his very own Carpenter Resume since he's never really put one together. Bear in mind I was already mid-panic and close to a mini-meltdown before attending the biggest conference of my entire year. I gently explained that building a resume is a daunting task and that it's not for the kindhearted. Still he gave me the big 'ol puppy eyes, flashed that Million Dollar Smile, and I couldn't resist.

Since I was already in the design mode (AKA coding and finishing the last details on the blog redesign) I figured there is NO way I'd send him off with a plain-jane resume. After a few hours of research and some pinning I came across this simple yet attractive graphical resume.

It proved to be a good foundation, but if you know me I can't leave things well enough alone. After a little reworking, a few added design elements, here's where I ended up:
*Of course I omitted his information for his own good, but you get the gist.

I realize it may be difficult to spot the differences between the original, so allow me to explain a few of the key updates:
  • Update: the original "name" font was too plain and I wanted the font to reflect the 'carpentry' field with a rugged yet simple and attractive font.
  • New: a thank you letter with matching header and footers. Thank you letters have become common practice after completing an interview. Again, being one step ahead of the rest.
  • Original: had splashes of color.
    • Since a new age style resume seemed bold enough for our area and his niche (we seem to be light years behind more fashionable states) the color got the nix.
  • New: His skill-set is different than business professionals, so category placement changed accordingly.
  • New: Lastly, although the skills bar was attractive, I figured the chart could be kicked up a notch by creating icons more specific to carpentry. In an effort to keep his resume unique, we actually used a different set of icons. So with this download download, you are presented with hammers- which would have been equally appropriate.

Directions/suggestions:
This is how I would tackle the template:
  1. Download the fonts required for this template:
    1. Monotone for the title available here for free download.
    2. Myriad Pro for the body available here for free download.
    3. I highly encourage fonts suitable to your particular field.
  2. *Begin filling in the template with your information.
  3. Finish things off by moving the content boxes to fit your information. If you change the header, copy and paste the header folder/group to each page (Cover Letter, Resume, Reference, and Thank You Letter) to ensure consistency.
  4. When you're ready to print or publish, save as (multiple pages) PDF by following this tutorial.
*Don't forget to expand each folder for the hierarchy within.

The blue represents various icons to choose from.

  5. Very nice templates! Speaking as a recruiter however, perhaps an MS Word version would be more useful. I know that may mean that some of the design features may be lost, a lot of hiring managers prefer to stay away from PDFs or jpegs.

    1. Thanks for the headsup! I'm working on some MS word versions as we speak. Great minds! It seems like more people have the MS suite than Photoshop anyway!!

      Thanks kindly! Much love,

  6. Please email me with instructions on how to cut out the hammers. I just want them off the page. I am new to Photoshop. I have an interview in the morning...and have already finished every part of the resume...except removing the hammers. :( I don't want to replace them with any icons. I just want no icons. My email is LSPURLOCK57@gmail.com
    Thank you so much!

  7. Hi Trisha,

Thanks so much for sharing this. I've downloaded the file several times now, but when I open it in Photoshop I can only find the cover letter. I'm I doing something wrong?

    Regards,

    1. Hi Carmen,

Sorry to hear you're having issues with the document. The cover letter is the first set of 'layers' within the file. If you have a "layers" window open, you should see little folders with 'eye icons.' If you un-highlight the one that says Cover Letter, you can then choose which piece you wish to customize next. In total there should be a Cover Letter, Icon Raitings, Resume, Reference, and Cover letter. (there's a screenshot in the post above for visual reference if it helps).

      Hope it helps!
      Trisha D.

  9. Hi Trisha - Thank you for the opportunity to update my resume. I am horrible with Photoshop. I still downloaded the PSD file, but no luck at figuring it out yet. Any chance you can share a MS Word version?

    1. Hello Jaye,

Unfortunately the MS version still has quite a few kinks to work out yet. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have!
