8 Paint Chip Flower

I was so excited to tackle this week’s Craft With What You've Got from Framed Frosting because its theme was paint chips. Yep those freebies you get from the store when you’re looking to paint your room a new color.

And like a good little crafter, I was lucky enough to have a drawer full. However, not in the colors and quantities I needed. So off to the store trying not to look overly greedy suspicious (buying a small item from each store to offset the guilt) grabbing a handful of specific colors and headed home to brainstorm some ideas.

Here’s what I came up with:
Chrysanthemum either fading in or fading out.
And here is the finished product:
Maybe it will have a different look during the day.
I’d say there was some major deviation from the original concept.

After cutting each petal out using the Silhouette Cameo, the beau (yep I called in the big brains) and I sat there for a couple hours moving the pieces around trying to come up the least wonky design. Folks, it’s harder than it sounds.

The quote reads “Why fit in when you were born to stand out. –Dr. Seuss.” I don’t know about you but I LOVED Dr. Seuss growing up! It was probably all those rhymes and original words. Fun fact: I actually squeezed in a Pac-Man font.

What was your favorite childhood author? Any Dr. Seuss fans in the hizzouse?

Have you tried your hand at a project and it ended up very different than you had planned? Please tell me I’m not the only one.

  3. What a great idea and think this looks great! I still love Dr. Seuss. :) Also, as a child was a big fan of Ludwig Bemelmans who wrote the Madeline series. Thanks for sharing and have a great week!

    1. Awe thank you Cindy, that's so sweet of you! I loved Madeline as well- probably because of her cute red hair (reminded me of the Little Mermaid) and her cute yellow rain outfit!

  5. Oh my goodness... coming up with a design is so much harder than it sounds! Those little pieces of paper like to slide around and be uncooperative.

I really like all the design concepts you've shared here and need to try out one where the pieces don't overlap. The black and white Chrysanthemum is really lovely!
